Weed-to-Butter Ratio: The Cannabutter Potency Chart
"How much weed per stick of butter?" is the most-asked cannabutter question — and the honest answer is: it depends on the strength you want. Here's a simple ratio chart, and a better way to hit an exact dose.
The standard weed-to-butter ratio
Most recipes use 7–14 g of flower per 1 cup (250 g) of butter. That's the range. Where you land inside it sets how strong the finished butter is.
| Ratio (per 1 cup butter) | Strength | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 3–4 g flower | Gentle | microdosing, drinks, beginners |
| 7 g flower | Standard | everyday baking |
| 10–14 g flower | Strong | experienced users, small servings |
From ratio to milligrams (the exact way)
To turn a ratio into real numbers: grams of flower × THC% × 10 gives the raw milligrams, and roughly 70% survives decarb + infusion. Divide by the butter volume for strength per millilitre, then by servings. You don't have to do this by hand — the Dosing Terminal does it live, and its "Hit a target dose" mode works backwards: tell it you want 5 mg per serving and it returns the grams of flower to use.
What about the color?
A golden-green butter is perfect. Very dark, olive butter usually means it was cooked too hot — it doesn't change the dose much but adds a grassy taste. Keep the heat at a bare simmer.
FAQ
How much weed for one stick of butter?
One stick is about ½ cup, so use roughly 3.5–7 g of flower depending on the strength you want.
Can I make it stronger than 14 g per cup?
The butter can only absorb so much; past ~14 g per cup you mostly waste flower. For stronger servings, use more infused butter per portion instead.
